Total Access

This is a good example of big companies that most retail investors don't take notice to.

We probably all know that Singapore’s largest quoted telecom company is SingTel (SGX: Z74). But which company do you reckon is the second largest?
It’s not StarHub (SGX: CC3), which is worth around S$7.5b. But instead it is Total Access (SGX: B2W), which is valued at around S$11b. The less well-known Total Access provides wireless telecom services and sells handsets in Thailand. The company, which is based in Bangkok, serves around 25 million customers.

A suggested way to manage emails in outlook2010

As with everything, if we are more efficient and productive in the way we do things, we can get more done. My idea is if we can free up any extra time from work, you can spend more time on investing..... ;p

So, let's look at my suggested way to manage incoming mails in Microsoft Outlook 2010. The setting will be a typical work day in the office.

(1) Reached the office. First thing is to look at inbox folder for emails that came in over the night.
!!!Experts tip: Read every email once, and act on it immediately. If you need to revisit the emails again and again, you are wasting time.
(2) After reading/replying the emails, mark the emails which requires followup action before sorting them to their appropriate folders. This is such that any email that requires followup can be easily found in the "Search Folder".
!!!Expert tip: Turn on auto correct feature, so as to correct spelling and/or grammar errors in emails.
(3) Turn off new email notification as this is a big distraction as to what you are doing, if you get incessant blinking notification on your desktop. Don't worry! if you are worried if someone is looking for you urgently, you can still look at the the outlook icon in the taskbar. If there's any new email, you will have a folder overlapping the outlook icon.
(4) Remember we can mark emails with flags if they need any followup action. Even if they are sorted to their respective project folder, we can still find them easily using the Outlook Search folder feature.
(5) When reading emails, remember to turn on "show conversation" if you are trying to follow a string of email conversation. Never miss a detail again in the thread even if the email is spans a long time...
(6) If you find yourself doing repetative steps in outlook, it is time to use the "quick steps" feature. This enables user to execute multiple steps in a click.
(7) There are many columns in outlook. If you find the default columns showing information you are not interested in, feel free to customise the columns shown. e.g. show which folder the email is in.
(8) Last but not least, there are still lots of thing to discover about outlook. It is silly for companies to buy the latest sw but did not train their staff to use it and increase productivity.
So long, Happy investing!

Candlestick strategy backtesting

Being a vivid fan of candlestick charting. What's more fun then getting in knee-deep and start interpreting charts. Before anyone jumps in and says "Hey! there's no use or credibility in interpretating a chart that's history", i would like to point out that practice helps! So here is the first in the series of charts I will attempt to interpret technically. Time for sharing!

-Falling wedge as indicated by the two trend line.
-Bearish falling window in the first oval on the left.
-Bearish reversal abandoned baby.
-Bearish reversal Tweezer Top
Conclusion. Unless GentingSP breaches the support/resistance as indicated by the trendline, stay out of this counter.
Trading: If i have to trade this. I would place a stop limit order 3 cents above the bottom trendline when prices rebound with a tight cut-loss 1-2 cents below the current price.

How much do you earn?

This is a question that is important to everyone working. But in the midst of all the office chaos, many of us fail to question how much we are earning... relatively to the industry.

Below is a wage Benchmarking app provided by MOM Singapore.
Have fun, and know how valued your company treats you. Sometimes its the industry as a whole that is under paying. Think about it. If the industry can't meet your expectations, no matter how hard you work, you will not be hiting your expected. It might then be the time of the awakening and start looking for a career change to align your expectations.

"Find out where your pay ranks within your occupation. Explore our wage database of over 300 occupations collated from more than 4,000 private organisations covering over 200,000 full-time resident employees."

Why I quit to be an engineer

Make no mistakes, I am not quiting yet as an Engineer. But why does there seems to be an exodus of Engineers from the field. The reasons often cited are very similiar. Long working hours, mad rush for engineering datelines, relatively poor compensation compared to other professional sectors. Strikingly, there are quite a number of enginners who feel the compensation is not enough for the effort and sacrifice given. Not everyone have the mettle to be a good engineer. But sadly, those who possess it do eventually gets dejected. Unless, a Engineer moves out of the technical path, how many can endure the inhuman hrs for the fight to be the first to market for every new product market.
Interesting insides below which every local Engineer can relate to, except the well paying part. Well, American Engineers are know to be well paid... But all other risks stands and are similiar anywhere in the world.
